Research

The pricing of licences and distribution of Kopiosto’s remunerations are based on surveys. Surveys also contribute in the development of new copyright solutions and licensing.

We study the trends in copying and use of copyright protected material, such as texts, photos, images and audiovisual works. These surveys include different sectors of society from educational institutions to businesses, and the collected data is used in the pricing of copying licences and the development of new licensing solutions. The research data also helps us distribute the collected remunerations to the authors, performers and publishers in the creative industry.

We develop our research activities constantly by monitoring the changes occurring in our operational environment. We also provide up-to-date information on topics that are of interest to rightsholders and support the collective management of their copyrights. In addition, we have cooperative research activities with other Nordic copyright organisations.
